TANYANAND

Tanya Anand is an artist who's work challenges the use of natural materials and performative exploration to enhance her process of making. Her motherland, (Punjab, India) has had deep influence on her work, thoughtfully bringing cultural tropes to the forefront of contemporary design, through traditional and natural hand-dyeing & printing techniques.
She plays with nature and isolates human characteristics to cultivate her understanding and interpretation of the world, whilst also extracting from our planet with great sensitivity through her ethical & circular practice.
Tanya’s achievements include commissioned garments used within the production of several runway shows, garments for a guest attending The Grammys Award Show (Los Angeles, USA) , as well as having her work included within the ground breaking exhibition ‘Dancing Before The Moon’ at the British Pavilion for the 18th Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale Di Venezia (Venice, Italy). Tanya has also been the costume designer for films which were screened as part of the 'Radical Imaginaries' event at the Victoria & Albert Museum (London, UK).
Her first solo exhibition at LOT Projects (London, UK), showcased a collection of garments inspired by her own skin’s appearance & properties.

Tanya continues to collaborate with other artists, photographers and designers to deepen the exploration of her work.

For all of my biodegradable projects, I extract colour from very specific plants or GOTS certified extracts (a concentrated amount of each dye plant) on organic fabrics like cotton and silk.
This allows them to be safely composted to decompose, without contaminating the soil.
I am always looking to work with all sorts of new materials and technologies and welcome researchers to please get in touch.
